Bump On a Log

Hi All-

My hubby thinks I've been a bump on a log lately, so I figured I'd share our exciting weekend with all of you. I had a pretty stressful week @ work which is very rare for me. On Friday, I had to help my sister Megan out by driving her son to camp and I had lunch with my nieces Sarah & Lauren. We had a great time. When Kyle got home we went out to dinner for dinner (pizza & a salad.)Yesterday Kyle really wanted to get out and I did not want to do anything but lay down and watch tv. He thinks I've become too addicted to the TV since we now have a thousand channels. I admit that he sort of has a case! But I was just in one of those moods where I wanted to do nothing but veg and he was in a total opposite mood. He was so annoyed!!! So, we went grocery shopping and he was still itching to do something else. I was open to seeing a movie but we could not agree on one we both wanted to see. I was agreeable to Sex & the City and he wanted to see the new Indiana Jones movie, which does not interest me. We wound up staying in and Kyle made us Pearl Harbors (mixed drinks) and we played Sequence. I won the championship. Whooo! Yes, I know I am the BIGGEST dork! Thanks Kerri for introducing me to the best game ever!!! I also wound up eating way too many scooby snacks b/c Kyle kept grabbing stuff and if something is in front of me I have NO self-control. Anyway, I knew I would need to be more social today since Kyle really wanted to get out. We decided to go fishing. I actually did not go b/c my sister Meg & I went to check on my mom b/c she has been having a hard time lately w/ her hands b/c of carpel tunnel. Anyway, The first photo is of our nephew Colin fishing. Kyle really made his day by taking him :)
Below is a shot of Rosie w/ Kyle's fishing hat on. Is she not the cutest dog ever???? The quality isn't that great but you still get a sense of how precious she is.

Overall it was a good weekend. Kyle is much happier b/c he had a fun time w/ Colin and we got out of the condo and did something fun. We are looking forward to the upcoming long weekend. My sister Maura is coming home from NYC and we can't wait to see her.

Hugs to All-

Cait & Kyle

Raincoat for Rosie

Hi All,

Rosie really dislikes the rain. She hates getting her paws wet and will actually jump puddles. It is so hilarious to see her leap over puddles. Boy can she jump high. I've been wanting to but her a doggie raincoat for sometime now. I found the coat below online and am debating on ordering it. Now I know most dogs don't like to wear clothes but Rosie is used to it since she wears a vest everyday and we also dress her up every Halloween! The three pictures in this post are the various raincoats available for dogs her size. My favorite is the pink one but so far I can't find it in large. I'm going to keep looking. I also can't really tell if the pink one has a hood. She DEFINITELY needs a hood. Let me know what ya'll think :)

Food For Thought

Hi All,
My friend Kerri sent me this pretty cool forward below. I figured I'd post it to see how accurate you all think it is. My B-day is 7/4 (Apple Tree) and it seem on the mark for me. However, Kyle's b-day is 4/25 (Walnut Tree) and his does not seem to be as accurate. Anyway, thanks for sharing Kerri. The original email showed the tree pictures but I could not get them to post. Oh well. I added a few new widgets to our blog that I'm pretty proud of. Hope you all like them :)

Happy Father's day to all you father's out there. My sister Megan and I headed to Keene, NH to visit my father yesterday. It was a nice visit. I was tired last night though b/c it was almost 6 hours of driving for me. We got Comcast installed yesterday & I am already fully addicted! There is just too much stuff to watch. I especially like the free movies feature. I need to watch myself b/c I already feel the couch potato in me fully emerging in less than 24 hours.

Hi All,
Please check out the video I made for our 5th anniversary. I know I'm late but it is the thought that counts, right? I've been dying to figure out how to do this so I'm pretty proud of myself. The video has pictures from the last 5 years. Some of the pictures are a little blurry but I'm just a beginner. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband and this is just a small little tribute to him. I look forward to many more wonderful years with you Kyle :)

New "Used" Car For Us

Hi All,
Ok, that is not our car pictured above b/c you all know we don't live in Long Beach- I wish! I found this picture online and figured I'd post it since I don't have a picture of our new one. We bought, or should I say that we are in the process of buying a used 2005 Toyota Camry? We left a deposit and need to go back to the dealer tomorrow to finish up the deal. Kyle is freaking out. I'm excited and just happy that we were able to keep our monthly payments at a reasonable price. This car has 31,000 miles and is a pretty forest green color. It also has a sunroof which I am so excited about. Anyway, when we finally get the car I'll post "real" pics. We may not have it for about a week b/c we have to have the hand controls taken out of our old Honda and placed in the new car. Hopefully we'll have it by next weekend.

On a different note, we just had a thunderstorm about a half hour ago and Rosie was beside herself!!! She really really hates thunder & lightning. I just feel so bad for her b/c she gets SO upset. For those of you that know Rosie and her LOVE of any food, you'll be shocked to know that she actually refused a frosty paw!!! I thought by feeding her it might take some of her attention of the thunder but no such luck!

On a happy note, I went swimming today! It was awesome. The water was freezing but it was SO refreshing. It hit 95 degrees today. Yesterday was in the low 60's, so it has been a total roller coaster. Ok, bye for now. I'm off to finish my Mojito!!!

Here is another picture of the type of car we bought!

New Car and Baby Update

Hi All,

Well, we need to replace our Honda Accord. It has 105,000 miles and needs over $5,000 of work. We are not thrilled about this as we were not planning to buy a new car anytime soon. We are looking to buy a used Toyota Camry, probably a 2005 0r 2006. Evidently the Camry is the most adapted vehicle in the U.S. We are looking at cars on Saturday morning while our van gets worked on. We are both really bummed about this b/c we were hoping to keep the Accord for another 5+ years. It is paid off and it has been a good car for us but we just can't justify putting all that $ into a car that has such high miledge and is 10 years old.

Things have also changed on the adoption front. As most of you know, we are no longer adopting from Vietnam. I researched other potential countries to adopt from but it became very limited as far as options. We looked into Russia, The Philippines, Taiwan and Bulgaria but the only option out of all those countries was Bulgaria. We could of adopted a special needs child from Russia and a few other counties but we feel that my disability is enough for us to handle at this point in our lives. I know that there are a lot of parents with disabilities that have adopted children with disabilities and I totally admire that. However, I know what my limits are. Frankly I found it very frustrating dealing with the ignorance of other countries views on disability. Many countries are decades behind us on disability issues. Apparently many people with disabilities in Russia are rarely seen in public. They can't fathom that someone like me works full-time, is married, drives and actually wants to be a parent. They also don't believe in my ability to parent, which infuriates me beyond words. I got so frustrated by the blatant discrimination I have experienced on the international adoption journey and decided to pursue other options.

I found a really neat agency in Georgia called Valley of Hope that is essentially a consulting organization for adoption. I've also explained it like a headhunter for adoption. So, I found this organization and spoke to the Director and she is SO nice. They only do domestic adoptions in the 48 continental U.S. and they work with multiple adoption agencies in 48 states. We were initially not interested in domestic adoption because we feared that it would take us too long to get chosen by a birth mother. However, when I spoke to Erin @ Valley of Hope she indicated that her last four placements were agency picks as opposed to birth mother picks. This is a plus for us b/c we don't have to worry about never being picked by a birth mother that wants "perfect parents." When I talked to Erin on the phone and explained my specific situation she was so encouraging which was the total opposite response I received from most agencies I dealt with on the international adoption front. Erin also has some knowledge about disability b/c her husband's business partner is a quadriplegic. So, it is looking like we will be adopting domestically and our child will most likely be an infant. We will keep everyone posted as things progress.
